Professional Placement is a period of planned work-based learning which is completed within an organisation in a market sector that is closely aligned with the student’s academic programme. The Career Management seminars provided as part of this module aim to facilitate students to develop a personal career development plan and specific skills in the areas of self-assessment, occupational research, decision making and job search.
This module aims to give students practical experience of working in an environment relevant to their field of study in which the language which is the main focus of their studies is normally in use.
This will enable them to improve their language skills and gain insights into the practical experience of employment and gain from working with experienced. The student will benefit from serving as an ambassador for TU Dublin and sharing her/his own culture and equally gain insight into the host country’s cultural aspects through the interaction with local colleagues and others.
Students undertaking a work placement of one semester’s duration taking only this module.
Students undertaking a work placement of two semesters’ duration also undertake the module Work Placement 2.

A combination of tutorials/lectures/presentations, including guest speakers, in preparation for the period of professional placement. Students will be encouraged to take responsibility for directing their own learning with the support of tutors/placement officer/employer during their period in industry.
