This module provides the student with an understanding of the purpose scope and application of risk assessment physical, biological, chemical, ergonomic and psychosocial hazards in the workplace. The student will develop competence in the risk assessment process. The student will be provided with the knowledge and skills required in the selection and evaluate prevention and protection strategies to control associated risks in the workplace in accordance with current legislative requirements. Specialist skills in Occupational Safety and Health will be developed, as well as improving communications, collaboration, teamwork, emotional intelligence, analytical and critical thinking, ethics, critical self-reflection, and using professional judgement skills in a work-related curriculum.
This module begins with a current state of the art debate on the classification and legal control of chemical hazards covering process based risk assessment in the work places to include chemical and carcinogen risk assessments, as well as biological risk assessments.
is followed by an in-depth analysis of the causes effects and possible solution for work related stress. This will include current techniques for stress reduction including a class based meditation and mindfulness session. The module will conclude with the current state of the art debate for ergonomics and human health as well as methodologies for ergonomic risk assessments.

The Face-to-face lectures are delivered and students will learn through in-class activities, a directed mindfulness session group work, report writing and discussions based on guided out-side contact hours reading and research. Self-directed learning is encouraged using tutorial questions, use of on-line resources and self-reflection.
