Module Overview

Professional Practice

This module provides the student with an overview of the theory and application of professional practice. The aim of the module is two-fold - (i) to enable the learner to Identify and critically evaluate professional conduct and conflicts to ethical behaviour in practice, and to initiate the professional skillset necessary to translate the knowledge acquired in the module into a professional setting; (ii) to prepare students for career and employment opportunities.

The syllabus includes the following elements:

  • The Professional in Society – relevance, skills, occupations, and industry links.
  • Regulation – Statutory and Professional
  • Professional Conduct and Ethics – moral awareness/decision making, conflicts of interest, diffusion of responsibility.
  • Professional Codes of Conduct.
  • Diversity and Inclusion – recognising and valuing difference in the workplace
  • Employment and Careers preparation – graduate employers/job titles/sectors, CVs, Cover Letters, Interview techniques
  • Self-awareness workshop – job-hunting
  • Professional Business Skills and Project Management – personnel, time-management, finance, and change management
  • Guest Lectures and Workplace Visits
