Module Overview

Development Management 2

Applied Development Management refers to the planning application process and it is one of the core functions of the planning system. This module is comprised of a series of lectures that cover a range of contemporary issues in planning and how they are dealt with in the development management process. The role of key decision makers in the process (such as the Local Authorities, an Bord Pleanála and third parties) are also considered. The process that is followed during the assessment of a planning application is explored through a number of urban and rural case studies. Issues such as infrastructure provision (and financing through development contributions), compact growth, densification, strategic housing developments and climate change are also covered. Students are also introduced to the key skills of planning policy analysis, development appraisal and devising development briefs for urban in accordance with site development standards.
