The module provides an overview of how emissions and impacts on the environment can be managed through the use of policies, legislation and best practice management techniques and technologies. The aim of this module is to introduce environmental management students to the environmental media of air, water and soil, the EU and National environmental legislation and how these relate to environmental management. The students will study each environmental medium, the pollutants and impacts that can affect natural systems and how these pollutants can be prevented and/or controlled through the implementation of policies and legislation and through the use of technology and management strategies. In the wider context, the students will be introduced to the concepts of Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control and Environmental Management Systems.
