This module introduces the learner to the governance and administrative systems (including structures) of the
EU and Ireland as they apply to planning, environmental management and sustainable development.
The syllabus includes the following elements:
· Introduction and overview
· EU governance arrangements
· Structure and powers of the EU
· The policy development process and influencing policy development
· Critical evaluation of the impacts of EU social development policy
· Ireland’s governance arrangements (national, regional and local)
· Relationship between Irish, EU, and Global approaches to sustainable development
· An overview of the composition and contribution of the community and voluntary sector in Ireland
