A group project addressing strategic planning at a regional scale. The aim of this module is to apply planning principles in strategic planning at regional level. The module emphasises the need for the student to design creative policies that can be adopted as regional plans. This module will take the form of a group project where the module coordinator is the facilitator. An overall problem statement will be divided into sub-components, which will be addressed by small groups. The project output will take the form of a group report.
Introduction to project brief
Identification of key theme or themes to be investigated
Consideration of different methodologies to examine the selected theme (or themes) at regional level
Review of policy context that is relevant to selected theme (or themes) at regional and constituent local authority level.
A quantitative analysis of the theme (e.g. such as an audit / calculation of land use functions in the region relevant to the selected theme or themes)
Consideration and assessment of the findings of the policy review and quantitative analysis
Researching and application of best practice approaches to address the issues identified
Completion of a written report which details the approach followed in the project and the final strategy which provides a spatial and policy response to the issues identified.
Group work, discussions and plenary meetings on the selected theme (or themes) and the presentation of the final strategy.
