This module provides a practical overview of housing and its classification for sustainable communities. It also evaluates the environmental impact of building and infrastructure development and how it facilitates urban development. The module illustrates the functional and environmental requirements of building components and how they affect the built environment. The module illustrates the importance of housing and infrastructure in relation to being a pre-requisite for development and its strategic importance in terms of unlocking development potential.

The syllabus covers the following:
- Housing types and classification
- Building process
- Building and housing design standards and regulations
- Functional and environmental requirements of building components
- Water, waste and waste water
- Energy and communications
- Construction drawings and documentation
Weekly two hour lecture and fortnightly two hour seminars in small groups. Students will be expected to undertake work in advance of the seminars.
