This spatial planning project module introduces students to students to the development management process. The project requires students to complete each stage of the planning application process by preparing and submitted a planning application for assessment to a Local Authority and an Bord Pleanála. The module is a mixture of individual work (under supervision) and group work within an agreed context that is developed by the students during the studio sessions. The students are required to complete the necessary reports (a report in support of the application, a planning objection to the development, a planning authority assessment report, an appeal, 1st and 3rd party responses to the appeal and an inspectors report). Each student’s work is examined by their supervisor throughout the module and by staff and outside experts in interim and final ‘crits’.
The syllabus covers the following:

- Undertake planning histories and comparisons with other sites and proposals.
- Identify, interpret and analyse relevant Local and Development Plan policies with respect to a subject planning application
- Prepare reports for each stage of the planning application process
- The organisation and operation of an oral hearing
Lectures, workshops, tutorials, studio discussions, site visit/s and professional crits.
