This module is an introduction to biology and ecology with an emphasis on Irish flora and fauna. Ecology is the interaction between organisms and their environment, the movement of energy through terrestrial and marine ecosystems and the factors that govern population growth and development. The aim of this module is to provide students with an understanding and appreciation of the structure and function of plants and animals, the relationship between organisms and the environment and the importance of biodiversity.
