Module Overview

Ethics and Political Process

This module aims to provide insights into the political process in Ireland, particularly the role of political parties, their advisers and public affairs practitioners. It examines the party system, political culture, funding of political parties and considers the role of volunteerism in the political process. An examination of historical instances of corruption and current anti-corruption measures leads into an exploration of ethics from both theoretical and applied standpoints. The effectiveness of ethical codes of conduct and regulations, and the demands of ethical concerns, are examined, and a framework for ethical behaviour is developed and explored. Students will be asked to consider strategic activities in terms of ethical constructions and public perceptions, and will consider their own future professional activities in the light of these considerations.
