Module Overview

Language teaching and learning in the digital world

This module aims to stimulate in participants an appraisal and a critical discussion of new technologies for language learning and teaching while equipping them with the competences necessary to critically operate in our technological society. More specifically, the module provides participants with the expertise and practical experience to adapt digital tools to the teaching and learning of foreign language

The module is aimed at students who are completing their studies in a foreign language and are interested in pursuing a career as linguists, furthering their studies in foreign language education, or in the field of educational technologies.  

The theoretical core of the module is built on second language acquisition theories, teaching methodologies and digital literacies. This is combined with practical experience of different technologies and environments for language learning and teaching.

The module may be delivered online and/or in face-to-face classes, through the use of synchronous and asynchronous modes of communication. 

The teaching method follows a flipped classroom and collaborative approach.  

Other learning and teaching methods may include a 3-hour long community-based teaching practice and/or participation in a game-jam. 

The material used will consist of: 

  1. books and journal articles accessed through the library and online. 

  1. digital technologies accessed through class computers and own devices.
