This module is designed for students who have no previous knowledge of the language. The aim of this module is to develop all four language skills in an integrated manner -reading, writing, listening, speaking. It aims to develop students' grammatical awareness, to introduce relevant vocabulary to comprehend and communicate in French and to introduce students to aspects of cultural life and to educational and professional environments in France and Francophone countries, and cognisant of the UN Sustainability Goals. The module is benchmarked at level A1.1 of the Common European Framework for Language Learning (CEFR).

Teaching & Learning takes place through communicative language classes where students practise and develop skills in all areas - reading, writing, speaking and listening - in interactive language classes. Individual and group activities, use of varied and authentic materials, resources and activities through VLE, and both self-directed and lecturer-directed activities in and outside of classroom.
