This module is designed to introduce students to the key concepts of culture and their impact on intercultural communication.
The aims and objectives of the module include:
- developing intercultural awareness, sensitivity and intercultural communicative competence;
- addressing stereotyping and ‘othering’ and developing curiosity to explore difference;
- providing students with the knowledge and skills to communicate effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds
- encouraging students to reflect on their own experience.

The class will be delivered through a mixture of interactive lectures, group study and discussion, role-play, case studies, problem-solving exercises, the use of intercultural literature, films and documentaries, self-reflective writing and interview exercises. Additional support materials will be available through Brightspace.
