Module Overview

German 5

The aim of this module is to further consolidate the student’s knowledge of grammatical structures and relevant vocabulary to enable the student communicate with increasing ease and accuracy, and to continue to develop all four language skills in an integrated manner – reading, writing, listening & speaking. It will build on prior knowledge and enhance students' understanding of socio-cultural, professional and educational environments in Germany and German speaking countries and is benchmarked at Level B1.1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference.

General/Professional Language

Further development of Listening, Speaking, Reading & Writing skills in areas of relevance in relation to self, family, work and education.

Grammar and vocabulary in context.

Grammatical awareness, accuracy and application. Language for topics of cultural, academic and professional relevance.Mediation: translating, summarising, clarifying, discussing, evaluating.

Cultural/Professional/Academic environments in German speaking countries.

Contemporary life, experience, college & education, professional life and work; Activities, plans, opinions, viewpoints; Issues & debates including sustainability, Sustainable Development Goals

Teaching & Learning takes place through communicative language classes where students practise, develop and demonstrate development in all skill areas: reading, listening, speaking & writing. Individual and group activities, use of varied and authentic media, resources in VLE and both self-directed and lecturer-directed activities within and outside of classroom.
