The Business Project module has been designed to improve students’ business knowledge and insight. Completed during the students' stay abroad - this module aims to develop their understanding of business practices in the global market by engaging students in a reflective research process. This will allow them to contrast their understanding of the business world in Ireland with the country of their foreign language. Approaching this module from a business management perspective, it further deepens the students' knowledge of the society and culture of the foreign country in all relevant contexts, and enhances their business communication skills.
This is also an opportunity for students to reflect on their prior business knowledge and acquire a new business experience in their host country.
Complete a business project of no less than 8,000 words, consisting of the following:
• Proposal (20%)
• Theory (25%)
• Primary research and analysis (45%)
• Conclusions and reflections (10%)
The pedagogical approach is based on integrating prior knowledge and learning from previous years of the programme and on developing new expertise through the students’ exposure to a new academic system. The module is managed by a team of supervisors from the School of Marketing to provide formative feedback, and ensure the students learning outcomes are met.
The module incorporates a range of learning and teaching methods in the partner university (e.g. Classroom based, directed study, and independent learning), with supporting resources available through the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Specifically, the business project is structured into a series of staged submissions, via the VLE, with formative feedback provided by the e-supervisors at each stage - which the students are expected to incorporate into their final submission.
Students are provided with preparation for the project before they leave for their year abroad as follows:
• Year 2 assessment preparation:
o use of the VLE and specific e-learning tools
o Sourcing and utilising academic literature, critical reading and writing
• Project briefing
• Proposal development and feedback
• Research methods workshop
Support materials are provided as both hard and soft copies
