Supporting Resources

  • Since the establishment of Pharma R&D, considerable sharing of resources between ITT, Dublin, NUIM and DIT (Cathal Brugha St. and Kevin St.) has facilitated attaining the aims and objectives of the research team. Specifically:
  • Students working at ITT Dublin have had access to the equipment and expertise not previously available and includes; Ames testing, cytochrome analysis, oxygen uptake analysis, RT-PCR, at NUI-Maynooth.This training has enabled completion of projects established under Pharma R&D. This access will continue through future researchcollaborations;
  • 300 MHz NMR facility, on which all students currently working on chemistry-related projects have been trained;
  • A synthesis laboratory in ITT Dublin is equipped with all standard equipment necessary for the synthesis of the compounds/complexes. To date we have successfully synthesised our target compounds and have not needed specialist equipment. However, access to chemistry laboratories at NUI-Maynooth will be made available, should it be required.
  • Biology research laboratory, ITT Dublin has equipment necessary for culturing, freezing and maintaining mammalian and microbial cells including; laminar air flow cabinets, liquid nitrogen storage facilities, plate readers, electrophoretic apparatus, flow cytometer, dark room, photographic, a selection of microscopes;
  • An instrumentation laboratory which is fully equipped with standard spectroscopic, electrochemical, chromatographic and capillary electrophoretic equipment.
  • Scanning Electron Microscope at CREST, DIT for characterisation of metal complexes incorporated within surfaces.
  • Several Team members are also members of either NCSR or NICB, DCU and as such have access to state-of-the-art equipment located at these facilities.
  • DE collaboration with Dr. Dominick McCabe (Consultant Neurologist, Tallaght Hospital) has enabled access to additional cell culture, tissue preparation and state of the art microscopic facilities.
  • Library facilities at three institutions are available to the students as are the library facilities at Tallaght Hospital, and at DCU through the NCSR and NICB.
