Entry Requirements

The normal requirements for admission to a TU Dublin Tallaght programme are as follows:

For entry to a Higher Certificate programmes (NFQ Level 6) and ab initio* Bachelor Degree programmes (NFQ Level 7/8)

* An ab initio programme is one where students must complete the full 3 or 4 year course to gain an accredited award.

  • If you are under 23 years old on 1 January of the year of application you must obtain at least a Grade H7/O6 in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate including English or Irish and Mathematics (Please note there are different Maths requirements for our Engineering and Computing programmes, please refer to each programme for specific Maths requirements).
  • If you are over 23 years old on 1 January of the year of application, you will be considered as a mature applicant, and you may be admitted without meeting the Leaving Certificate requirement outlined above. If you do not  have evidence of Mathematics, English or Irish you should submit a Curriculum Vitae detailing your life and work experience where your application will be considered on the basis of your educational background and your work and life experience will be fully taken into account. You may be asked to attend for interview.

  • Maths needed for admission to BSc IT Management

As the BSc IT Management programme has some Maths elements we ask for evidence of Maths background for people taking the BSc IT Management. This can be supplied in a number of ways:

Evidence of Leaving Certificate ordinary level Mathematics C3 grade or better (Foundation A2 or better will work too).

Evidence of passing a Maths module in a QQI/FETAC Level 5 award (or higher)

Evidence of a full QQI/FETAC Level 5 award related to IT Management

An international equivalent of any of the above

If you do not have formal evidence of Maths background our advice is for you to undertake the Institute’s Head Start Mathemathics course and examination. We can then consider your Head Start Mathematics examination result when considering your application. The Head Start Mathematics Course is typically offered during May and August each year.  For more information click here

You have qualifications from a country other than Ireland

If you would like to apply to TU Dublin Tallaght, there are a number of ways to check if your qualifications meet the requirements for entry.

Option One:

Get your qualification recognised through the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (NQAI). To have your award evaluated, you must complete an application form and submit documentation relating to the award. Full details of the process and the application form are available on the NQAI website:

Alternatively you can contact NQAI at the following address:
Qualifications Recognition – Ireland
The National Qualifications Authority of Ireland
5th Floor Jervis House
Jervis Street
Dublin 1
Tel: +353 1 887 1500
Fax: +353 1 887 1595

Option Two:

Have your qualification checked by TU Dublin Tallaght. We belong to the Institutes of Technology Central Evaluation Forum (IOTCEF). This group produces a publication, which is reviewed regularly ‘A World of Access’, detailing many of the qualifications from around the world and matching them to the entry requirement for programmes. TU DublinTallaght will try and match your qualification with the qualifications required for entry to the programme you have chosen.

To help us, you will need to:
Attach the original transcript of your qualification when you apply for the programme you want to complete. (The qualification or transcript should state the standard obtained, the subject area and the level of the award)
Attach a certified English translation of the qualification – if the original is not in English.

If you would like to check your qualifications yourself, A World of Access is available on the Central Applications Office website

If your qualification is not covered by this booklet then TU Dublin Tallaght will check your qualification on a recognised international database called NARIC (National Academic Recognition database) and then let you know if you have met the requirements for entry to the programme you have chosen.
