Office of the Ombudsman

The University is a prescribed body under the remit of the Office of the Ombudsman as and from 1 May 2013.

The function of the Ombudsman is to examine complaints from people who feel they have been unfairly treated by a public service provider.
If you feel that you have been unfairly treated or are not satisfied with our decision on your complaint, it is open to you to contact the Office of the Ombudsman. By law the Ombudsman can investigate complaints about any of our administrative actions or procedures as well as delays or inaction in your dealings with us. The Ombudsman provides an impartial, independent and free dispute resolution service.

Before you make a complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman you must firstly comply with the University’s internal complaint process.  If you have followed the internal complaint process and you believe the decision or action taken was wrong, then you can contact the Ombudsman.

You must complain to the Ombudsman within 12 months of the action or decision that has negatively affected you.  If more than 12 months has passed, they may still be able to help if there is a good reason for the delay.
