Customised Profession-specific certification programmes

The Issue:

For many years, The Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV) provided Education and Training courses for its members throughout Ireland. While these courses were designed to ensure the highest of professional standards, they did not meet the criteria for accreditation on the National Framework of Qualifications.

What happened next:

Until recently, little more than a good character reference provided by An Garda Siochána was sufficient to secure an Auctioneer’s licence to practice. The economic downturn coincided with the introduction of more formal regulation of the profession, including the necessity for a formal qualification at Level 6 as a condition for holding a licence.

IT Tallaght’s activity to solve the issue:

In collaboration with IPAV, the Department of Lifelong Learning, and the Head of Building and the Institute’s Estates Manager, the Institute of Technology Tallaght developed a comprehensive programme designed to ensure the required formal recognition. Classes are delivered both on and off campus to a cohort of 50 students, at a time and pace that takes account of their professional obligations.

The benefits to the Company:

As a result, members of IPAV can achieve relevant qualifications to secure their licence to practise, and the possibility to progress to honours degree level in the future.
