About the Course

Electronic systems touch every part of our lives today, from transport systems, to health care, to the local supermarket checkout, to mobile phones, to sophisticated computers, to energy technology, to space exploration.  The electronics industry needs graduates to work in areas such as manufacturing, system design, computer networking, software engineering, system testing and debugging, design simulation as well as in technical sales and service.

At Higher Certificate level, students are introduced to the fundamentals of electronics. They learn about analogue and digital systems, engineering science, electronic telecommunications, control systems and computer systems. In the second year of the programme a hands-on project is provided in order to allow the student to experience construction and testing of circuits so as to enhance both skills and knowledge.  At the end of the programme graduates will understand the operation of electronic systems and devices and will be ready to work at technician level in industry.

The FLASHE (Flexible Access to Higher Education) Higher Certificate in Electronic Engineering is an innovation from ITT Dublin which gives you control of when, where and how you study.

Requiring a minimum of eight hours a week attendance at the Institute during each semester, this programme allows you to reap the benefits of a recognised and internationally accredited qualification in engineering in two and a half to three years. The course has been designed to provide flexibility in attendance times and progression rates, so that whatever your circumstances, you will be able to excel.

You enroll with the college in the normal manner but it is not necessary to attend full-time classes between 9am and 5pm. Instead, the timetable is spread across the whole week with repeated classes during the day and evening and at both ends of the week. If you have other commitments such as employment or family responsibilities then the flexible learning arrangement may suit your needs. The principle is that the students may construct a convenient timetable around other aspects of their lives thus allowing maximum engagement.

Entry Level
