Energy Systems Engineering at IT TallaghtThis Programme will prepare graduates to work as highly skilled Energy Engineers. The Programme emphasis is on the application of current knowledge and practices to the solution of specific problems in the areas of energy management, the utilisation of renewable energies, and the adoption of emerging technologies. The Programme also seeks to develop the graduate’s application and implementation abilities including knowledge of research methods, regulations and policy, and project management.

Due to the demand for green building components, the reduction in energy use and the introduction of energy-efficient equipment, ‘green’ manufacturing and high skill positions will show an increase over the next few years. Potential will also arise for highly skilled researchers and engineers in areas such as diagnostic techniques, knowledge of renewable energy, smart energy systems, system modelling and system installation.

In addition, knowledge will also be required of the technological process designed around the capture and storage of CO2 emissions. This Programme will ensure that the graduate Energy Engineer is prepared to immediately begin technical assignments, since the Programme modules address current and emerging industrial practices and procedures.

These companies typically require the technically capable and enthusiastic professionals who will graduate from this programme.

As graduates gain more experience then they will have the opportunity to move into positions of energy management with responsibility for managing and controlling utility consumption and costs as well as implementing strategic and capital initiatives to promote resource and environmental sustainability. The Energy Engineer could also be employed as part of a team involved in the modelling, installation, and commissioning of energy systems, in addition to investigating new power conversion technologies for renewable systems. This work would include the evaluation of system efficiency, system reliability, system costs and system complexity.
