PLC courses are an excellent option for students who don't reach the entry requirements for a particular course (e.g. studying foundation Maths and the minimum entry requirements are a O6 in Ordinary Level Maths) or didn't achieve sufficient points to make them eligible.

We would recommend that students choose their PLC course carefully and align it as much as possible to the course they want to eventually study in IT Tallaght. The reason that this is important is that it will give you an advantage when you begin the course as the material will be familiar to you.

There is, in specific situations, the potential to skip the first year of your course in IT Tallaght if the modules you studied in your PLC course are similar in content to what you would be studying in your first year of the course. To be eligible for this "Advanced Entry" you would have to have achieved a strong grade throughout and you will have to approach the head of department in IT Tallaght directly.  It is then up to the discretion of the Head of Department whether or not they feel you will be able to go straight into 2nd year.
