Campus Development

A new pedestrian bridge was built over the river Poddle, connecting the main building to Airton Close. It also provides a shorter route onto Airton Road. It was built over the summer of 2022 and completed in September 22.

Childcare Assistance Fund (CAF) 2024/2025 

What is the Childcare Assistance Fund?

It is funding designed to support students who are parents with childcare expenses using the childcare services at our on-campus creche while studying at our Tallaght campus.

The students are generally  from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The funding will be targeted to support full or part-time students who are lone parents as per the guidelines of the overall Student Assistance Funding as published by the Higher Education Authority.

Where is the Creche on Campus? 
The crèche is the first building on your left as you enter the campus by the Greenhills Road entrance.

The Early Years’ service at Oakview Tallaght is not only open to families of students based on campus but also to families of the wider community.  There are some spaces available at present.

The service caters for children from 3 months to 6 years and offers a number of Government subsidised Childcare schemes such as USC, CCSP and TEC. These schemes offer subsidised rates for working parents, students and also for those seeking employment.

Campus Development

Our new Tallaght Campus building project is a 5,199m² multi-disciplinary building to house our teaching and research in hospitality, culinary arts, engineering and apprenticeship activities. Building commenced in January 2023 and was completed in March 2025. Tallaght North House delivers lecture theatres, training restaurant, design studios, and research facilities.

Part of the Government Third Level PPP bundle, this very significant capital investment project will further reinforce the commitment of TU Dublin to the South Dublin region.  It will facilitate collaboration between students, staff and members of local organisations in modern facilities that promote research and student learning, while also directly addressing the needs of industry and organisations in the region.

Campus Development

Construction of our €14.7 million Sports Science and Recreation facility on the TU Dublin Tallaght campus commenced in October 2020. The building was handed over by the main contractor ABM in February 2023 and was officially opened in September 2023 by TU Dublin President, Professor David FitzPatrick.

The building provides an extra 3,282 m2 of space and will increase our overall campus capacity by between 600 and 660 students.

 Facilities include a sports hall catering for a range of indoor sports, including basketball, soccer, and badminton. The hall also caters for TU Dublin Sports Clubs, Student Societies, volunteering groups and an Exams Hall. We now use the main Sports Hall as a venue for our Graduation events and as a location for local Community programmes. On the first floor we have a gym and fitness suite. This includes resistance, cardio and gym equipment and is available throughout the year to our students and staff.

The Sports Science element of the building provides two lecture theatres, three classrooms and exercise medicine laboratories. The laboratories support research and teaching in exercise physiology, exercise rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, anthropometry, biomechanics, and performance analysis. 

Students enrolled in our 4-year Applied Social Care and Early Childcare Education and Care programmes also attend classes in the building and benefit from dedicated Art, Music, and Drama rooms. They students also receive lectures here on Child Development, Psychology and Outdoor Recreation.

Some other associated works to go along with this development include landscaped pedestrian areas, footpaths and 56 unit covered bicycle-parking area. We also have plans for an adjacent grass playing pitch covering 140 x 90m with floodlights, scoreboard, spectator seating and ball catch nets.

Training events, mentoring and networking opportunities all contribute to the Synergy Centre experience. The centre is a hub linking client ventures with research centres inside the campus, external commercial enterprises and support agencies such as Enterprise Ireland and Local Enterprise offices.  Synergy’s aim is to enable industry and academia to interact to create viable enterprises for South Dublin County that will secure the area’s future in terms of job creation, innovation and export potential.

Synergy Global is located at City West Business Campus, just minutes from the campus and home to top global companies in pharmaceuticals, IT/software, telecomms, electronics, media and food. Synergy Global, which represents an additional 1,341m² of modern incubation facility, was acquired by the University in 2011, and is now home to high-growth innovative technology companies, many of whom are graduates of the Synergy Centre.

Lárionad Forbartha Teicniúla

The Technical Development Centre (TDC) is a facility dedicated to development of our Energy and Environmental programme within the School of Engineering on campus. Key aspects of the TDC include a software lab area for both software and hardware design implementation.

The TDC has seen significant investment in all areas including the EV lab area. The EV lab is dedicated to the development of modern Electric Vehicle technologies, this includes battery management technology (lithium cells) as well as fuel cell technology (hydrogen). The EV lab promotes students projects based around the development of light weight vehicle chassis / controls systems and instrumentation. Current student projects have focused around an Electric Motorcycle and Electric Motor Car.
