The objective is to provide the student, through work experience, with the opportunity to acquire skills and develop an understanding of his/her prospective role as a professional in the international hospitality and tourism sector.

The student is expected to achieve the following learning outcomes:

  • Apply the knowledge and skills acquired through the taught programme of IHTM to the professional context
  • Work under direction and on one’s own initiative, as appropriate
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the business operations of the hospitality and tourism sector
  • Professionally provide services to clients in the hospitality and tourism sector
  • Reflect on one’s practice in the profession

The internship is supervised and a learning agreement is established between the industry mentor, the academic co-ordinator and the student. The Internship is awarded 30 credits.  Students complete an on-line reflective diary (Student Diary Pro) while pursuing an internship placement abroad/ nationally. They produce a portfolio that forms the basis for the assessment.Internships are organised for students in the EU, the United States, China and Ireland and a selection process is in place.
