Preparatory and Short Courses

 

You can find out information about our short courses and preparatory programmes below. These include Pre-Start Maths, Introducing Social Media, Learning about Microsoft Office, Pre-Start Academic English and the Certificate in Preparatory Study in Higher Education and you can find further information on each course below. All courses run subject to numbers.

As well as these specific courses, it is also possible to take individual modules from some of our other programmes. You can view the individual modules by following this link and selecting the course of your choice. Note, you may be required to meet specific entry requirements if you wish to register for examination in the module and receive credits for successful completion (if you do not meet the requirements, you may be able to take the module on an audit basis - i.e. without examinations). Some modules may be available during the daytime or at night. Timetables and fees will vary by module. Pre-Start Maths

This course is of benefit to anyone preparing for a higher education course (and those who simply want to brush up on their maths skills). More detailed information on this course including the start date, fees and how to apply can be found here.

 

NEW: Introducing Social Media

Interested in social media but don't know where to even start? Over ten weeks (one evening per week), you can explore different social media platforms, how they are used, who uses them and why. The short programme provides an opportunity for those wishing to learn about social media and those who wish to take a short course as preparation for a return to higher education.

Cost: €200 (Wednesday evenings for ten weeks beginning mid-October).


NEW: Learning about Microsoft Office

Interested in improving your use of the Microsoft Office programmes like Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and Access? Over ten weeks (one evening per week), this course will systematically explore the different applications found in Microsoft Office. The short programme provides an opportuntiy for those wishing to improve their use of Microsoft Office and those who wish to take a short course as preparation for a return to higher education. Pre-Start Academic English

In order to assist those applying for entry into IT Tallaght to reach the required English language entry level, English classes will run on one evening each week for 3 hours over a 4 week period.  Classes will concentrate on English grammar at the intermediate level, with the aim of assisting students to reach a B2 English language level - IT Tallaght's minimum entry requirement.

Classes will be run by fully qualified English language teachers in possession of a Government recognised English Language teaching qualification. If you wish to enrol on a Pre-Start Academic English course, please contact the Part-time Office at 01 404 2101 or by email to LLL@it-tallaght.ie.

Cost: €100 (Non refundable) Includes cost of Access English Test

 

Certificate in Preparatory Study for Higher Education

This ten week course begins at the start of February 2016. Typically participants have applied as mature students via CAO for entry to a programme in September 2016. The Preparatory Study course provides an opportunity to refresh their skills and ready themselves for registration onto their chosen degree programme.
