National Pharmaceutical Education Centre
Under the National Development Plan 2000-2006, the National Pharmaceutical Education Centre was established within the Department of Science. This is an integrated pilot scale Bio/Pharmaceutical Technology facility, designed with a strong emphasis on the support of teaching, training, research and development and industrial applications.
It currently supports research carried out in the areas of bio/cell technology and process analytical technology. The centre includes:
- Pharmaceutical Area.
- Biopharmaceutical Area.
- Tableting Area (Lab 113).
- Analytical Testing Area (Lab 113).
- Boiler House.
- Control Room.
- Waste Water System.
- Clean Steam Generator Area.
- The main facilities are a Pilot Manufacturing Plant, divided into a number of distinct regions:
- Bioprocessing Facility
- Formulation Facility
- CIP Centre
- Waste Management System
- Utilities – Boiler Room
- Utilities – Clean steam Generator
The Centre also has a Development Laboratory to support the Pilot Plant. This comprises an Analytical Chemistry Laboratory, a Research and Development Laboratory and a twenty station Automation Laboratory.
Researchers in the Department also have full access to additional off-campus resources through their collaborative ventures at DCU in the National Centre for Sensor Research (NCSR) and National Institute of Cellular Biotechnology (NICB), and also at NUI Maynooth and DIT and AMNCH
