Supports for full-time lifelong learners
(1) The Grant is means-tested on the previous tax year, with the upper income limit currently set at €54,240 where there are 3 or less dependent children in the household. Applications are made through SUSI (Student Universal Support Ireland). Apply online at www.studentfinance.ie The grant consists of two elements: the Student Services Fee, and Maintenance. Students on BTEA can apply for the Student Services Charge element of the Grant, but not for the Maintenance element.
(2)The Back to Education Allowance is available to individuals who have been in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance / other eligible Dept. of Social Protection payment for a minimum of 9 months. It allows the student to continue to receive a weekly DSFA payment during their studies. Apply through your local Department of Social Protection Office.
(3) The Student Assistance Fund is available for disadvantaged students who run into financial difficulties. Support is available for the cost of Books, Transport, Rent, Heat Light & Food, and Medical/Dental expenses. Applications are made through the College after the courses start.
