Marketing and Business Computing

A well known hotel offers excellent comfort, cleanliness and a good price. Customers like the hotel and keep coming back. That’s successful marketing for you! If you were to open a Boutique, you might carefully select beautiful garments and hang them on the racks. You might open the doors and start selling. The marketing people, unfortunately, will give you no marks for your efforts.

You haven’t done your marketing homework. Marketing failure! Before you open the boutique the marketing people say you must do your research. What age group are you selling to? What clothes are they interested in? You must decide what features your boutique is going to promote. What styles, what image, what colours, which fabrics? Next you must find out what benefits your customers are going to get from their purchase of your product. A feel good factor maybe, a new image, a sense of freedom, a sense of style, looking attractive, a city look, a continental look.

That takes asking around and research. The marketing people say the key to marketing success is establishing a relationship of mutual benefit with the customer. Before you open, you plan an advertising campaign that suits your budget. You create an advertising campaign that is aimed at your target audience. Then you open and begin selling. And of course you set prices that are consistent with the quality and image of the clothes. You are on your way to a successful enterprise!
