Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 and Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007 are two separate products from Microsoft which allow of live interactive communications and a live collaborative working environment using text, voice and video in real time.

With Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 you can communicate directly with others instantly using text, voice and video. This application is also contains presence information which is used to inform other if you are available to communicate. This presence information is fully integrated with your outlook calendar so if in a meeting your status is marked as busy.
Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 is also integrated into all of the institutes Cisco phones. This means that if you are on a call using a Cisco phone, your presence status changes from available to busy. In addition you can also place a telephone call to a through the Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 client software and your Cisco phone will dial the number for you.

Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007
Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007 is a collaborative instant messaging client which enables users to host and attend presentation online with two or more attendees using text, voice and video and applications to communicate. In presentation mode, the person hosting the live meeting controls the presentation slides (similar to Microsoft Powerpoint) and the attendees interact using and combination of text, voice and video.
In addition to presentation mode the person hosting can also choose to share an application with the persons attending the meeting. In this mode, all the attendees can collaboratively edit documents being shared. This allows you to meet your colleagues online, in real-time even over long distances for any purpose including presentations, brainstorming ideas, collaboratively editing documents, project collaboration, and all without the need to travel.
Microsoft Live Meeting 2007: Sample Meeting
To take advantage of the voice element of Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 it will be necessary to have a headset with a built in microphone. When choosing your headset, it is import to choose a headset with a sufficiently long cord to enable you to sit comfortably at your desk. The reason for headsets is to ensure your privacy and to avoid disruption to colleagues.
Similarly, video support will require a webcam which is compatible with Microsoft Windows. The quality of the camera is determined by the megapixel value, the larger the better. If you are working from your desk from inside ITTDublin then Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 is already installed on your desktop computer.
To launch Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 select: Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft Office Communicator 2007.
Then login using your @ittdublin.ie email address, for example:
