Dr. Gerard Colleran has been appointed to serve on the Irish Expert Body on Fluorides and Health by the Minister for Health, Mr. Simon Harris TD.   The fluoridation of public water supplies has been implemented for decades as part of government policy and aims to reduce the formation of dental cavities in the population. The Expert Body on Fluorides and Health advise the Minister on all issues in relation to the fluoridation of water supplies and its impact on other aspects of health policy.  Their work includes reviewing global research and current international governance and practice and reports to the Minister.   The role of the Expert Body also includes external communications and media involvement.  Gerard’s appointment commences in November for a period of five years.
