Placement/ Period Abroad: Option for 6 month placement or period abroad in Year 3.
Last year over 70 students availed of this option across a range of companies such as SAP, IBM, Amazon AWS, Ergo, Groupon, Equinix, Openet, OpenJaw and many, many more. Placement countries include France, Spain, Austria, Germany.
This award is targeted at learners identified in the Forfas/Expert Group on Future Skills report ‘Guidance for Higher Education Providers on current and future skills needs of enterprise’ (2014 edition, Section 6 page 25). This report has identified a major future ICT skills shortage across all enterprise sectors at level 7.
In this information age many organisations are ‘data-rich, information poor’. Modern IT Systems permit the accumulation of phenomenal amounts of data, however turning this data into useful information for a business or organisation is another matter.
Students of the programme will have a strong set of computing knowledge and skills allied to specific computing focused data analytics skills. They will be given a sufficient grounding in data analysis and database operation to be able to perform basic well founded data analysis. Students will further receive a solid grounding in data reporting, presentation and visualisation.
The report by the EGFSN/Forfás, ‘Assessing the Demand for Big Data and Analytics Skills in Ireland 2013-2020’, forecasts a continuing strong demand for data analytics and related skills across the economy. Companies envisage that they will continue to need to recruit both experienced individuals and new graduates in these areas in the future.

What do I Need?
Leaving Certificate with a minimum of Grade C3 in two Higher Level subjects, and a minimum of Grade D3 (Ordinary Level) in 4 other subjects in the Leaving Certificate Examination, which must include Mathematics and English or Irish.
You should be expecting to score better than a D grade in Ordinary Level Mathematics if considering this programme.
Previous computing experience not required so much as a logical approach to problems and an interest in being involved in a fast growing rewarding career.

This is a new degree option designed to address the need for Level 8 data Analytics skills as identified by the EGFSN in 2015.
It has been designed in consultation with leading Data Analytics companies including SAP Ireland. In 2015 over 90% of IT Tallaght Level 8 Department of Computing graduates found employment in ICT Sector roles within 3 months of graduating with 5% going on to further study.
Salaries ranged from €22k to €52k with typical salaries in the region of €35k for good development roles. IBM was the single largest employer closely followed by SAP and Ergo Systems. Other employers were Sage, Intel, Bearing Point, PaddyPower, Microsoft, Dell, Guidewire, Allnone, Dell, ERS, Telecity.
