Computing at IT Tallaght

Placement/ Period Abroad: Option for 6 month placement or period abroad in Year 3.

Last year over 70 students availed of this option across a range of companies such as SAP, IBM, Amazon AWS, Ergo, Groupon, Equinix, Openet, OpenJaw and many, many more. Placement countries include France, Spain, Austria, Germany.
 

The Computing with Software Development programme is the latest update of our Computing programmes has been updated to reflect a number of key inputs from our industry collaborators and the increasingly diverse technological landscape.

Software has become ubiquitous within society, and consequently we have seen the proliferation of software development tools and techniques aimed at facilitating this expansion.

The IT Tallaght Computing programme combines the advanced theory sought by industry with up to date current hands on skills in areas such as DevOps. You will learn advanced data structures and algorithms, a range of programming languages and frameworks covering the major language types and developing for cloud/ web / mobile device.

Allied to this you will learn advanced database, networks, operating systems, analysis and security material.

We have taken inputs from a wide range of serious ICT Sector companies such as IBM, Microsoft, SAP among others in developing this programme.

What do I Need?

Leaving Certificate with a minimum of Grade C3 in two Higher Level subjects, and a minimum of Grade D3 (Ordinary Level) in 4 other subjects in the Leaving Certificate Examination, which must include Mathematics and English or Irish.

You should be expecting to score better than a D grade in Ordinary Level Mathematics if considering this programme.

Previous computing experience not required so much as a logical approach to problems and an interest in being involved in a fast growing rewarding career.

Career Opportunities

Computing at IT TallaghtIn 2015 over 90%of Level 8 graduates found employment in ICT Sector roles within 3 months of graduating with 5% going on to further study. Salaries ranged from €22k to €52k with typical salaries in the region of €35k for good development roles. 

 

Graduates go on to to a wide range of roles with a typical distribution shown belo. IBM was the single largest employer closely followed by SAP and Ergo Systems. Other employers were Sage, Intel, Bearing Point, PaddyPower, Microsoft, Dell, Guidewire, Allnone, Dell, ERS.
