About the Course

The B.Eng. (Hons) Degree (TA221) allows students to develop a deep understanding of engineering principles across a wide range of different fields. The graduate engineer will be able to offer solutions to problems using well-developed analytical and practical skills. Over the duration of the B.Eng. (Hons) Programme the student will spend greater than 50% of class time in the laboratory developing strong technical skills. The students will be trained to be creative and inventive and able to solve many difficult problems in areas such computer networks, mobile phones and software systems.

The TA221 Programme offers two choices for the student.  The Programmes share the initial Semesters and the preferred choice can be selected in Semester 4:

The BEng (Hons) Degree in Electronic Engineering is a strong technically focused programme and is targeted at producing graduate design engineers specialising in defining system architecture and electronic system design and solving engineering problems.  The students choosing electronic design and development gain expertise in FPGA design, DSP design, embedded software design, and communications engineering as well as an in-depth knowledge of electronic hardware design techniques.

The BEng (Hons) Degree in Engineering Software prepares the student to practice as a Software Engineer.  The graduate will understand both hardware and software systems and be able to apply fundamental software engineering principles to construct complex hardware and software systems. This is a practical course balancing theory and implementation to support the specification, design, programming and evaluation of computer based systems.  The graduate will be able to work in software design within a broad range of industries such as computer networking, data communications, and system maintenance.
