About the Course

Creative Digital Media at IT TallaghtThis four year Creative Digital Media programme is primarily designed to provide you with the intellectual resources necessary to meet the needs of a rapidly changing media workplace. While we teach media skills and competencies to a high standard, we are also aware that technologies, platforms and industries are constantly evolving and what is required today are graduates who understand that media technologies are simply new tools for expression.

Whatever the medium used, the underlying idea and imaginative treatment of the idea is what is most important. Our approach to teaching technology is based on this assumption and we therefore strive to ensure that you graduate from our programme with a balance of technical expertise, critical awareness and the ability and desire to continue learning as you progress through your professional career. The Creative Digital Media degree has been running for over ten years now and is a leader in its field, having established a strong reputation within industry for providing graduates with the professional skills relevant to current and future job markets.

Creatively challenging and academically rewarding, this programme delivers an exciting range of media–related modules. It strikes the perfect balance between media practice and theory, recognizing the important links between media productions and the concepts which drive them.

Creative Digital Media at IT TallaghtPractical modules and specialist workshops encompass Digital Video, Interactive Multimedia, Photography, and Radio Production. Project work by students in these areas includes the production of short dramas, documentaries and music videos, as well as 2D and 3D animations, website design and photographic portfolios. Students on the programme have access to fully equipped professional studios, edit suites, digital production labs, cameras and recording kits. This aspect of the course is complemented and informed by theory and business modules. Subjects studied include Screen Studies, Media Politics, Media Law and Culture & Technology. Here, students are encouraged to critically examine how the media is influenced by and impacts on the world around us.

Added features of the course are the student radio station ITTFM, the annual Degree Show exhibition and the Erasmus European exchange programme. Student work has been screened throughout the country on many occasions, for example at the Galway Film Fleadh, the Darklight Festival and the Mid Ulster Film Festival. Most recently some of our students were winners in the short film category of the Oxygen National Student Media Awards. The course itself has been also nominated in the third level section of the prestigious Digital Media Awards.
