Campus Crèche at IT Tallaght

Institute of Technology, Tallaght –Procurement Process to Operate our Onsite Campus Crèche

The Institute of Technology, Tallaght undertook an open public procurement process to secure a provider of childcare services at our onsite crèche from September 2017.  The Institute is required to procure a provider through the public procurement process every three years. The request for applications was published on the Government’s Public Procurement website on 27th February 2017 and remained open for 6 weeks closing on 7th April 2017.

Applications were examined and assessed with the assistance of an external childcare consultant and scored against the following criterion:

·         Methodology for providing the childcare services including curricula and programmes, staffing and quality of food provision.

·         Operating procedures including facilities management

·         Reliability of Continuity of Supply together with Communication, Accessibility, Promotion and Development of the Service

·         Overall Fee Proposal.

Following the procurement process, the Institute was unable to make an appointment as none of the applicants met the minimum procurement criteria.

The Institute intends to undertake the procurement process again on 15th August 2017 ( subject to the public procurement process) and expect to be in a position to appoint a provider to re-open the crèche in January 2018.

The Institute will continue, in the interim, to financially support qualifying students, by contributing to the cost of childcare in statutorily approved crèche facilities and/or child-minders registered and approved by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. Details on the qualifying criteria and the application process will be published on 23rd July 2017.

Childcare Assistance Fund & Details on How to Apply 2017-18

The Childcare Assistance Fund provides financial support to parents who are fulltime IT Tallaght students with children in a crèche or registered childminder. This scheme is designed to help those in severe financial difficulties due to unforeseen circumstances or students who are disadvantaged and require additional financial support to continue their third-level studies. As these students are usually entitled to some state benefits and allowances, this scheme is means-tested. This fund is limited and applications will no longer be considered after the funding is exhausted.  Applications must be submitted no later than 5pm on Friday 29th September 2017.
