Honours Bachelor of Engineering - Electronic Engineering
About the Course
This programme aims to provide graduates with the opportunity to work as professional engineers in the electronics industry as well as creating opportunities for postgraduate study. The programme has been developed in consultation with the electronics industry in Ireland and abroad, and as a result it has a very strong focus on the needs (and therefore the job opportunities) of the Irish and European economies. Key objectives are to:
- equip students with the analytical skills required to solve complex engineering problems within a broad spectrum of activity ranging from design, simulation, low - and high - volume manufacture to service.
- give students the opportunity to use industry-standard computer-based tools to develop relevant engineering solutions to various real-life problems, and give students the knowledge and skills required to allow them to function in a team-based environment.
- provide students with the opportunity to stream their area of desired career focus by selection of specific optional modules in either engineering software, telecoms, digital systems design or RF design. Students will also be expected to complete a significant design and implementation project in their chosen area of specialisation.
The programme is delivered in a repeating block format to facilitate attendance and to enable greater student immersion, in particular given the academic level and expected student development reflected in a degree program. Classes will run on one evening (6pm-10pm), and one full day (8am-9pm) every week. The times and individual scheduling of some modules shown here may be subject to change.

Career Opportunities
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) gives its graduates a wide range of opportunities in many sectors with strong opportunities in the high tech and telecoms industries. Upon completion of the programme the student will have developed key skills such as programming, system design on an individual basis and as part of a team, which is a very attractive attribute to companies. The student will also have the opportunity to progress into research & development either through continued study or as part of development.
Students have gone onto work in integrated circuit Design, telecommunication systems design, software design and digital signal processing design. These graduates will also have the opportunity to move to management level. Graduates achieve full membership of Engineers Ireland and Chartered status.
