TA311 - Bachelor Degree in Science Degree - Chemical Analysis
About the Course
The Level 7 Degree in Chemical Analysis provides a very hands-on practical skills based course which provides graduates with a broad range of highly sought-after capabilities. Industry has a current need for chemists trained in the application of modern, chemically based analytical techniques.
Indeed the demand for such expertise is expected to increase. To meet this need the course produces chemists with expertise in chemical, chromatographic and spectrophotometric analytical techniques. These chemists will be capable of performing analytical techniques/process development in a quality-conscious manner while also being able to participate in the design and validation of these methods and processes.
Course Code: TA 311:
Bachelor Degree of Science Degree (Chemical Analysis)
Length of course: 3 years
Follow-on Degree
Follow-on Honours Bachelor of Science Degree (Applied Chemistry). 1 Year
Recognised in Europe
Mature students welcome
Mature applicants (23 years of age) may not be required to meet the minimum entry requirements but may be considered on their merits.
Research opportunities at Post Graduate level
MSc, PhD
Honours Bachelor Degree recognised for Second Level teaching of Chemistry in Ireland
At the end of the BSc in Chemical Analysis, the student will have achieved an in-depth knowledge of chemical analysis, synthesis and characterization of compounds and the applied areas such as materials and environmental chemistry. For many graduates the BSc is a stepping stone to the BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry and, for an increasing number, far beyond.
What do I Need?
Leaving Cert entry requirements for the Bachelor Degree in Science (Chemistry)
Grade D3 or higher in 5 subjects at Ordinary Level. English or Irish at Grade D3 or higher.
Ordinary Level Maths at Grade D3 or higher.
No Leaving Cert Science subject is required for this course
Recent minimum CAO points: 250
Recent points range for applicants choosing this course: 435 - 250
Career Opportunities
The course will produce graduates with the requisite skills and knowledge to work as chemical analysts within the pharmaceutical, chemical, food and biotechnology industries, as well as local and national scientific agencies and research institutions. The 4 main areas of Chemistry (Organic, Inorganic, Physical and Analytical) are covered along with other very relevant modules covering applied topics (environmental chemistry, good laboratory practices and material science). All modules covered are important for potential employers as they give the graduates an in-depth knowledge of many topics in Chemistry.Graduate Profiles
