Statues Fees Refund Policy
The Institute accepts no obligation to refund any fee (or any part of a fee) paid by a student to the Institute in respect of any programme or service provided by the Institute to a student who withdraws from a programme or module. A full refund (less administration fee) will be given if requested in writing before the commencement of a programme. Refunds will not be given thereafter. Requests for fee refunds should be made in writing to the Registrar. The date of receipt of the written request will be taken as the applicable date for consideration of refund requests. Special Cases: Where by virtue of a higher offer through the CAO, a student withdraws to take up another programme a full refund of fees will apply subject to a written request being made. Where a student has to withdraw from a programme or module in exceptional circumstances which includes certified serious illness, having registered and paid the applicable fee a partial refund may be considered.

Detailed medical certificates or supporting documentation must accompany any refund request. No requests for refunds will be considered unless presented before March 1st 2010.

Notes: For the purposes of this refund policy the term ‘fee’ is meant to include any tuition payment, any examinations fee payment and any student services fee payment made by a student. The student services fee comprises the capitation fee and the student services charge.

The student services charge element is only refundable up to 31st October, 2007.

Student Services Charge
All undergraduate students are required to pay a services fee each year, unless they are in receipt of the maintenance grant. The registration fee covers the costs associated with registration, examinations and student services. The fee for 2008/2009 is €900.

Vocational Education Committee Scholarships
Each Vocational Education Committee offers scholarships to assist students attending designated programmes. The scholarship
is subject to a means test, educational attendance and distance of residence from the Institute. Enquiries in relation to these scholarships should be addressed to the applicants local VEC.

Higher Education Grants
To qualify for a HEA grant, applicants must attain the required educational qualifications, satisfy means test requirements and age limits. The level of grant depends on distance of residence from the Institute. Enquiries should be addressed to the Secretary of the County Council or Corporation in the applicant’s home county/town.

Maintenance Grants
Maintenance grants are available to students on full-time Higher Certificate, Bachelor Degree and Honours Bachelor Degree
programmes. Students pursuing these programmes have tuition fees paid and a maintenance grant may be payable subject to
the conditions of the Higher Education Grants Scheme. Payment of tuition fees is automatic on receiving a place on a designated programme provided that the candidate has not already completed a programme (other than progression to a post-Certificate Diploma, Bachelor Degree) or is not repeating a year.
