About the Course
Graduates in electro-mechanical engineering are educated across the common ground between mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. Electro-mechanical graduates work with the electronic and computer control systems which drive the efficient and reliable operation of equipment. Electro-mechanical engineers are the experts with automatic systems that monitor process plants for breakdowns and faults.
With their expertise in computing, in electrical, in electronics and in core mechanical engineering knowledge the electro-mechanical graduates manufacture, monitor and maintain working systems which meet the safety and reliability levels we now take for granted. A student may exit to employment after achieving the Higher Certificate award or progress to achieve further academic awards.

Mature applicants (23 years of age) may not be required to meet the minimum entry requirements but may be considered on their merits.

Entry requirements for the Higher Certificate
At least Grade D3 (ordinary level) in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate of which
Ordinary level Mathematics (Grade D3) is a requirement.
Recent minimum CAO points: AQA

Businesses and other organisations depend on complex electronic and mechanical equipment.
Electromechanical systems contribute to almost every area of engineering. The Electromechanical
technician is trained to conduct routine maintenance checks, referring to wiring diagrams, engineering
drawings, automation and fluid equipment as well as service manuals to find the source of a problem.
The technician will also be trained to use various testing equipment such as voltmeters, oscilloscopes,
signal generators and frequency counters.
