About the Course

First year opens the inner world of computing to students. Website design, code software, hardware, operating systems, communications, applications, security, computers and business, computers and leisure and all the background that students need to follow a career in this vital area that is so strongly linked to business and pleasure. From Second Year on students produce quite exciting projects often tailored to a student’s personal interest. Students have produced web-based applications, network applications and computer games of a very high standard. Continues to amaze us!

What do I Need?

Entry Requirements for the Higher Certificate in Science (Computing)
Grade D3 or higher in 5 subjects at Ordinary Level. The subjects must include either
English or Irish and Maths at Grade D3 or higher. (Grade C3 in Ordinary Level maths is
recommended but is not a requirement)
No previous, serious computing experience required
Students needn’t arrive as computer whiz-kids. They learn to become experts with us!
Recent minimum CAO points: 215
Recent points range for applicants choosing this course: 400 - 215

Career Opportunities

Career prospects are good. Computing related qualifications are on the wanted list among employers, with attractive salaries, conditions and progression opportunities on offer.

Typical starting positions include junior roles in IT Support, Network Support, Software Testing, New system deployment.

Patricia Maher IT Consultant
I graduated from the college in 1997 with a First Class Honours Degree in Computing. I went on to pursue a career in I.T, concentrating on leading financial institutions based in Dublin. Projects I have worked on include Banking365 and Banking 365 Plus (web-based service). I now work as an IT consultant in the banking sector. The work is interesting, challenging and rewarding.

Niall Roche Software Developer Mobile Aware
Niall obtained his B.Sc. (Hons) in 2001 and his M.Sc. in 2004. My M.Sc. project was based on a research collaboration between IT Tallaght and mobile technology development company Mobile Aware. I now work as a developer for MobileAware. My job takes me around the world talking to clients in the Far East, Europe and America.
